"Mirru the Cat"
by Verónica Huacuja
September 2003.

That's me, the cat in the blanket on our living room wall. The person who wove my picture was Justina, my owner. She really is good at weaving. Justina and I live alone in this huge house here in Oaxaca, Oaxaca. That means in the city of Oaxaca, which is in the state of Oaxaca, which is in the southeast of Mexico. Now don't think I'm a little sleepy and keep repeating the word "Oaxaca" for no reason at all.

Living in a great big old house might sound boring, but it isn't. I spend my days going from room to room in search of new and exciting adventures. Sometimes when it's cold, I catch the rays of sunshine that come in the windows. But when it's hot, I look for shady spots - which there plenty of in this old place.

There are many interesting things in our house, like watching the flies fly in circles, the strong smell of cedar wood in the closets, Justina's soft, comfy lap in the afternoon… But to tell you the truth, what I like the most is looking up at the blanket hanging on our living room wall, the one Justina made with me in it.

How do you think the rest of the story will go?
